This set of Agate bookends are crafted in Brazil from hand-polished agate. The stone, a mineral composed of layers of quartz and silica, usually occurs as rounded concentric veins in traprock. A geode first forms as a cavity with walls composed of the cryptocrystalline quartz called chalcedony. As water passes through the cavity, the dissolved minerals slowly line the hollow, so that geodes are often partly filled with colorful layers of quartz. This is actual set of bookends - weight of the set is 7.4 pounds
