Larimar is a rare form of pectolite, which is only found in the Dominican Republic. Originally discovered by Father Miguel Domingo Fuertes Loren in 1916. He requested permission to mine his discovery but was denied. In 1974, Miguel Méndez and a Peace Corps volunteer rediscovered Larimar on a beach. Miguel took his young daughter's name Larissa and the Spanish word for sea (mar) to name this gemstone Larimar, by the colors of the water of the Caribbean Sea, where it was found. Combined with natural sea glass and sterling silver - all hand crafted.
