Green sea turtles, Chelonia mydas, get their name from the color of their body fat, which is green from the algae they eat. Adult green sea turtles can weigh up to 500 pounds and are often found living near coral reefs and rocky shorelines. Sleek and mysterious, the sea turtle has a prominent roll in folklore in nearly all ancient ocean cultures. The beautifully made box is hand crafted from cast pewter and decorated with high-fired enamel and Austrian lead crystals. Hinged shell top opens. 2 1/4" X 2 1/4"
