In the Chinese Empire jade (jadeite and nephrite) was considered the most noble of all gems; to the extent that it was simply designated under the name yü, "precious stone". The T'ang period was a time of immense cultural achievement, known as China's Golden Age, with great works of art created by the most skilled artisans the world had ever known. These jade earrings have a carved dragon motif with gold plated findings.
