A finely carved and patinated ivory netsuke of Hotei with child. In excellent condition with no damage or losses. Purchased at auction at I.M. Chait, Beverly Hills 10/11/1998 Lot #N32. 1 1/4” tall 1 1/4” diameter.
Hotei 布袋 in Japanese mythology, is one of the Shichi-fuku-jin (Seven Gods of Luck) He is the god of contentment and happiness, the guardian of children, and patron of bartenders.
