Eric Gourieux is a retired physician, father of four and a highly skilled wood turner. Sometimes called “Ash-leaved Maple” because the leaves look like that of the Ash Tree, The Box Elder is technically considered a maple tree. The rarest wood displays red coloration - a spalting caused by a fungus that is brought into the wood by a boring beetle that discolors the wood. Dr. Gourieux harvested this wood from his property with the turning process taking more than a year to complete.
