A stoneware white glazed vase with Cole pottery seal and artist inscription, G.F. Cole "90" Cole Pottery. G.F. Cole was a 5th generation potter from the Cole family - one of North Carolina's oldest pottery-making families. General Foister Cole (1919-1991) was the son of the founder of the Cole Pottery, A. R. Cole (1892-1974) who set up his shop in Sanford N.C. in 1934 after moving his business from Seagrove, N.C. The pottery is still in business and is currently owned by G. F. Cole's sisters Neolia and Celia who have been making pottery most of their lives. The Cole tradition continues with Neolia's grandson, Kenneth George.
