A miniature stoneware vase, glazed with a thin blue glaze over a green ground, faint pottery stamp Jugtown, 2nd stamp design. Circa 1960. Jugtown Pottery is located in a grove of trees and bamboo eight miles south of Seagrove, NC in the community of Westmoore. It is just off Busbee Road, a road named for Jacques and Juliana Busbee, the founders of Jugtown Pottery. Both artists, with a love of pottery, they opened Jugtown in 1922. Juliana set up the Village store in Greenwich Village NY. later at 37 E. 60th Street. The shop was open by the first of 1918. The first orders for pots for the Village store were given to potters with their own wheels and kilns, Henry Chrisco, Rufus Owen, James Owen and J.W. Teague. The pottery is still in operation today.
